Every week that passes means another week of waiting for Anubis. The brindle shelter dog has all the qualities adopters often say they want: he’s smart, affectionate, eager to learn, and full of playful energy. Yet despite his charm, Anubis remains at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control, hoping someone will finally stop at his kennel and see the dog everyone else already sees.
Shelter dog who keeps winning hearts during playtime, waits for someone to choose him
A recent Instagram video shared by Charlotte Shelter Pups highlighted his personality and renewed calls to help him find a family before his long shelter stay begins to dim the bright spirit that makes him so special. The post carried a heartfelt message: “Anubis A1261536 is still waiting at Char Meck ACC for a family to choose him. He’s smart, fun, handsome and loving! Hope someone will show up and give him a chance before he loses his spark.”
The video opens with Anubis standing quietly inside his kennel. The text on the screen reads, “Another week and Anubis is still waiting and hoping a family will choose him.” Despite the shelter environment, the dog immediately approaches the front of the kennel with soft eyes and a hopeful expression. The video shows him enjoying time in the play yard, where he eagerly interacts with volunteers and toys.
According to the post, he uses his 30-minute outdoor breaks to show exactly what potential adopters are missing. One of Anubis’ favorite activities involves a large herding ball. The video drew plenty of support from viewers who immediately fell for Anubis. One commenter wrote, “Bump for sweet Anubis!!” Another added, “He is so handsome and just a great pup!” A third viewer commented, “Anubis, such a smart, handsome boy.” Another person wrote, “So handsome!!!!”
The video was shared by @charlotteshelterpups, an Instagram account dedicated to helping local shelter dogs find permanent homes. According to the profile, the account is run by volunteer and foster mom Torey Parsons, who works with Charlotte Animal Care and Control.
