A shelter dog named Larry did not know it at the time, but an ordinary day he spent at the beach three weeks ago was actually the beginning of his whole new life. An Instagram video from @cassondra.christman shows sweet Larry finding his forever home.
It all started when a family on vacation signed up for the Maui Humane Society’s Beach Buddies program, expecting to give a shelter dog a few hours of fun. What they got was Larry — a sweet, easygoing boy who left his mark all over their hearts before they even boarded their flight home.

Cassondra Christman, who shared the shelter dog’s journey, captured every milestone in the video. There is Larry, his tail wagging as he gets his leash clipped on for the very last time as a shelter resident, and pausing for hugs and kisses from staff members who have cheered him on through months of waiting.
Then he hops into a van, rides to the airport, and, with the help of the shelter’s transfer team, boards a cargo flight that will carry him over the ocean to the people who could not stop thinking about him — his forever family in his new forever home.
In the caption, Cassondra narrates the entire journey. Meanwhile, the on-screen text fills in the rest of his day when he finally flew home, meeting people he can call his own. As Cassondra put it, for the first time, “he gets to fall asleep knowing he belongs to someone.”
Viewers poured their hearts into the comments. One wrote, “I’m not crying you are,” while another celebrated, “The happiest ending for Larry,” and a third viewer was excited to learn something new, writing, “Wait I’m able to adopt a dog from far away ?really.”
Three weeks ago, Larry was just another shelter dog. But now, he is playing with toys and licking the face of his new friend, and he deserves that happy ending.
