A dog wants to play with his baby brother, so he adorably brings a frisbee to him — except little Asher is too small to even sit up on his own. But Oak the Boykin Spaniel did not care about that. In @annmarie__smith’s Instagram video, the dog walked over with a red-and-blue frisbee in his mouth, and dropped it squarely in the little boy’s lap. Oak then licked Asher’s toes, as if to seal the invitation.

The moment captures the dog walking over to the baby with a frisbee in his mouth, as an on-screen caption explains, “when your dog brings his frisbee to the baby expecting him to play fetch with him.” In the caption, Oak’s owner writes, “oak said let’s play brother!! also the toe licks.”

Taking a beloved toy to someone is a social bid in a dog’s language, and it says, “You matter to me, and I want us to do something together.” Spaniels, especially, were bred to retrieve and partner up, so their insistence when they want to play is legendary. Oak acted on his instinct. He knew that he needed to offer the frisbee and nudge with a gentle lick — and the fact that Asher just sat there did not seem to discourage him one bit.

Viewers admired the dog’s patience. One commenter joked, “Why the baby no throw the frisbee??!!” while another saw the long game, writing, “Going to be lots of frisbee in this household I think!” And a third viewer noted, “Best friends coming soon,” which is not wrong.

This dog is putting in the early work by bringing over the frisbee — the way dogs do when they have decided someone is part of their inner circle — and the toe licks are his way of bonding and finding a best friend in the baby for life.
