If you ever wondered whether dogs can tell who the “soft touch” is in a family, two Dobermans named Axel and Karma have your answer. An adorable Instagram video from @axel.thedoberman shows the two dogs hovering close to their grandpa as he eats his food, because they know they can easily melt him.

One of the pups slides their head up under grandpa’s arm, wedging themselves in. Then the second one follows, tucking their face into the other side, until grandpa sits with two very determined snouts while he tries to eat his meal.

Video shows dogs know grandpa’s most likely to give them food from table

The video shows the two dogs standing around grandpa, waiting for him to offer his food. He says sweet nothings to the pups while they look really comfortable under grandpa’s arms, as the caption explains, “I think my dogs know which family member is most likely to feed them from the table.”

The on-screen text quips, “It’s always grandpa,” — and with so much affection and food on the table, who can blame the dogs anyway?

It helps to know that dogs often pay attention to patterns, especially around food. If one person has slipped them a bite before, they remember who did it and where it happened, and over time, they learn to stand and stare politely, waiting for the reward. The dogs in this video just need their grandpa and his food.

Additionally, the video highlights what makes Dobermans such characters in family homes — they would stay close to you and watch everything, and they don’t miss a chance to charm the right person at the right moment.

Viewers loved how calmly the dogs worked the room. One commenter wrote, “They always know who the weakest link is,” while another joked, “There is a small queue.” A third one said, “When in doubt, beg grandpa.” And that strategy always works — at least it does with Axel and Karma working their magic on grandpa.
