If you ever need a quick perspective shift on a slow afternoon, just spend a minute scrolling through the @daredevilandfriends account on Instagram. The Golden Retriever, Daredevil, lives in a busy rescue household with four cat siblings. But he is the one who usually steals the spotlight with his relentless optimism.

He was born without sight, so his version of a park day looks a bit different than that of an average pup’s. A new video of him playing outside is the perfect example of why he is so special. Even when this blind dog gets a little turned around, his tail wags keep coming thick and fast.

Video proves blind dog’s tail wags are constant even if he gets a little lost while playing

In the clip, you can see Daredevil standing in the middle of a grassy field, tilting his head to catch every passing sound or scent. Someone throws a ball, and while it flies right over his head, he doesn’t seem to mind missing the catch. Being a Golden Retriever, that famous “fetch” instinct is still very much there, even if he has to rely on his nose rather than his eyes.

One of his buddies eventually swoops in to grab the toy, but Daredevil just stands there with a massive grin, looking toward his human’s voice. The in-video text reads, “ Daredevil was born blind and sometimes gets a little lost and confused playing with other dogs…” but as his owner says, his “tail always wagging though.”

It is honestly pretty impressive to watch how he navigates. At one point, another dog takes off on a chase, leaving Daredevil momentarily behind. He halts for a second, nose in the air, trying to sniff out where his friend went. Instead of getting frustrated, he just waits for a cue.

Daredevil even manages to find a ball of his own to hold onto while he follows the noise of his friends. It’s pretty obvious that visual cues don’t matter much when you have mastered your other senses.

The 1,700-plus likes show that people find his spirit contagious. He doesn’t let visual limitations slow him down at all — whether he is out at the park or cooling off in the pool with his dad on a hot day. Commenters keep calling him an inspiration, and it’s hard to disagree when you see that constant wag.
